Student Analytics CWT
The college planning council charged the Student Analytics Collaborative Work Team to recommend a “comprehensive data analytics framework” to guide an ongoing analytics strategy. The framework was to specifically address the different aspects and elements of analytics at community colleges, suggest set of design principles to guide institutional decision making, and recommend set of analytics projects or initiatives that should be undertaken immediately. The Faculty Dashobard is one of the recommended initiatives.
Faculty dashboard
The faculty dashboard will be used to provide faculty with insights about their students, their grading and student outcomes. It will describe their students’ engagement at the college and point out students at risk. Prior to a term start, it will inform them about the students in their courses and their backgrounds. It will also show faculty how their former students are doing in subsequent courses, how they are retaining and completing. The dashboard also includes information about the faculty member’s inclusive grading statistics. Lastly, it will provide personalized tips for the faculty to improve on which can result on improved student academic outcomes.
Audience
The audience of the Faculty Dashboard is any faculty or staff that teach or have taught courses at SLCC, including School of Applied Technology courses.
Data Flow
All of the data presented in the Faculty Dashboard comes from the SLCC Data Warehouse, which in turn gets its data from a variety of sources including banner, canvas and starfish among others. Most data in the data warehouse is refreshed overnight with the exception of Canvas data which may have a lag of upto two days. Data refresh labels are shown on the dashboard to show the latest data timestamp.
